Our History
At ALASALWA, jewellery isn’t just our business – it’s our heritage. As the third generation in a legacy of Bahraini jewellers, I spent my childhood in my fathers shop pouring over the meticulous design process and the simple elegance of the raw materials. I still fondly remember the hand-feel of the pearls our merchants would bring– beautiful, smooth, light-catching pearls wrapped up in dozens of little red bags.
It was here I came to understand that jewellery carries with it a glow bestowed upon those who choose to wear it. It commands attention and is all at once, celebratory and deeply personal. I believe a great piece of jewellery completes not only a look, but the person who wears it. I have learned this from watching my mother swan boldly and lovingly through life, leaving her mark on the world with poise and charm.
ABOUT MY MOTHER, SALWA
The strongest woman I know is my mother. A bold and confident individual with unwavering personal style, and the ability to bring a little bit of magic and allure with her wherever she goes. From interior design to dinner parties– trust me when I tell you, there is nothing my mother can’t do. Growing up, the finery my mother would adorn herself in included shimmering garments of turquoise and teal, traditional fragrances such as bakhoor– an agar-wood incense, and the finishing detail of fine jewellery– fitting, as it often feels as though everything she touches will surely turn to gold. In celebration of my mother, Salwa– a jewellery line as unabashedly feminine, confident, and daring as she herself, is my gift to you. A collection of little daily reminders to love yourself to the fullest, so that you may impress upon others to do the same. My hope is that our collections will inspire you and your loved ones to continue to bring love, bring light and bring happiness, ala Salwa.
